Villarreal wants to sign a move away from Arteta’s Arsenal

Arsenal are preparing to part ways with full-back Cedric Soares during the January transfer window, with Villarreal becoming one of the main contenders to sign the player, according to exclusive information from TEAMtalk.

Cedric Soares has been in the Arsenal ranks since July 2020, when he joined from Southampton. Despite making 61 appearances for the Gunners, the Portuguese full-back fell short of Mikel Arteta’s pecking order, which led to him being loaned out to Fulham last season, where he also struggled to secure playing time, as reported by TEAMTalk.

Arsenal rule out Cedric

Despite earlier speculation of a possible July exit, Cedric remained at Arsenal, but his lack of playing opportunities confirmed his marginal status in the team. Arsenal are now prepared to let the 32-year-old leave in January as this is their last chance to make money before his contract expires in June.

Villarreal, who were in contact with Arsenal over a possible deal in the summer, top the list of clubs interested in Cedric. The La Liga team wants to strengthen their defense with experienced players and Cedric fits into their plans.

Although Cedric hasn’t been a prominent figure at Arsenal recently, he has shown commitment in training. Hoping to find more game time and enjoy the final years of his career, the Portuguese player is keen to leave Arsenal in search of new opportunities.

While Cedric is close to leaving Arsenal, defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is expected to stay with the London club during the winter transfer window.
