Large parts of the state of California in the west USAwere flooded on Monday and hundreds of thousands of people remained without power after a storm brought heavy rain and forced authorities to declare a state of emergency.
“This is a severe storm with dangerous and potentially deadly impacts,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said, declaring a state of emergency for eight counties in Southern California.

Affected areas include: The angelthe counties of Orange, Riverfront, San Bernardino, San Diego And Saint Barbara.
According to electricity tracker PowerOutage.us, around 700,000 customers were without power early Monday.
For its part, the aviation site Flightaware.com said that dozens of flights took place inside and outside the United States Los Angeles Airport They have been delayed or canceled.
The National Weather Service (NWS) had previously warned that “a strong storm system in the Pacific would bring dangerous and shocking flooding, heavy snow, strong winds, coastal flooding and high waves to California.”

“Heavy rains pose the risk of life-threatening flash floods, urban and river flooding, as well as debris flows and landslides,” the agency said.
The storm, with gusts of 60 mph or more, is part of the so-called “Pineapple Express,” a climate phenomenon that originates in the archipelago Hawaii close to tropical humidity.
The NWS described it as “the largest storm of the season.”
