Video: Portugal’s special jersey for its 100th anniversary

This is the home stretch of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. And like many nations, Portugal will try to win its ticket against Ireland (Thursday) and Serbia (November 14). On this occasion, Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammates will wear a special jersey to celebrate the 100 years of the Portuguese selection.

Fernando Santos’ men will swap their usual red jersey for an essentially black tunic. The latter, particularly sober, will refer to the first match of Portugal played against Spain on December 18, 1921. “The jersey perfectly recreates the original look where the black color used in the first match prevails”, indicated the Portuguese Federation in a communicated.

And this special edition should meet with some success with fans. But interested supporters will not have to wait long. This jersey, already on sale at the official Portugal team store, is only available in 500 pieces. Happy buyers will not only receive the jersey. “This limited edition is accompanied by a commemorative balloon and a certificate of authenticity bearing the number of the duly identified copy, all packaged in a very special box created for the moment,” added the Federation.

It remains to be seen if this tunic will allow the Lusitanians to win their ticket for the 2022 World Cup. Before their last two meetings, Portugal occupies the 2e place in his group with one point behind Serbia, who for their part only have one game to play. And it will be in Lisbon for what should be a final between the two nations for the qualification.
