Near the port of Cagliari, Sardinia, a baby dolphin has been saved from certain death by coast guards.
It was a boater who sounded the alert this Tuesday at the beginning of the afternoon, seeing a baby dolphin struggling in the waters of the port of Cagliari. The animal, trapped in a nylon net, could no longer swim.

The harbor master immediately dispatched two boats with a team from the Marine Rescue Center and divers on board. The Coast Guard contacted the Center for Cetacean Studies in Nora who helped them reassure and release the dolphin.
A frequent phenomenon
Immediately free, the young cetacean joined one of his congeners who seemed to be waiting for him by assisting in the rescue. The two dolphins then drifted off to sea.
Unfortunately, it is common for marine animals to become trapped in fishing nets. Fishing accidents are fatal for cetaceans, which regularly come to wash up on our beaches. Between January and February 2021 alone, 400 dolphin carcasses were found along the French coast.
