VIDEO. British MP denounces inequalities of new mothers at work

Coming with her baby to the British Parliament, MP Stella Creasy spoke to talk about her maternity leave and denounce the differences in treatment that new mothers can encounter at work.

The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority refused to properly fund my maternity leave on the grounds that people needed to be able to speak in the House. Yet today, in order to speak, I had to give up my proxy vote or be called to order by the House Authority for speaking here. Which makes Parliament one of the few workplaces in the country where a new mother who returns to work for a day is blamed instead of supported. “At 44 years old and mother of two, MP Stella Creasy spoke in the British Parliament to denounce the differences in treatment between ministers and MPs on maternity leave.

Since the start of 2021, ministers have been granted six-month maternity leave with a full salary, which is not the case for female members.
