Victor Steeman dies after his serious accident in Portugal

the dutch pilot Victor Steeman, of the MTM Kawasaki team, died after suffering a serious accident last Saturday during Race 1 of the Portuguese Grand Prix of the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship, held at the Autodromo Internacional del Algarve, the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) confirmed on Tuesday.

Victor Steeman, 22, was involved in a multi-driver incident at Turn 14 of the track that caused the red flag. The pilot was treated on the track itself and at the circuit’s medical center before being transferred by helicopter in critical condition with polytraumatisms and a head injury to Faro Hospital where, despite all medical efforts, he was unable to overcome the serious injuries.

“Something that one is always afraid of as a father of a motorcycle racer has happened. Our Victor could not win this last race. Despite the unbearable loss and pain, we are extremely proud to share with everyone that our hero, through his passing, was able to save five other people by donating his organs. We would like to thank everyone for the way they have lived with us for the last few days. We will greatly miss Victor.” said a statement from the Dutchman’s family.

Steeman was enjoying an excellent campaign in the championship and arrived in Portugal with the possibility of taking the title after having added four wins and five podiums. “The FIM family, the Dorna Group and the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve send their deepest condolences to Victor’s family, friends, team and loved ones,” they lamented from WSBK.
