With an atmosphere of optimism and triumphalism, the Leones del Escogido presented Víctor Estévez this Wednesday, who will be their leader for the next 2023-2024 campaign in the Dominican Baseball League.
Estevez, who played professional baseball in the minor leagues with the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2007 to 2010, said he was very excited about the challenge of managing in the Dominican League and affirmed that he will permeate his leadership from day one with the team, in search of the title number 17 in its history.
He also pointed out that he is already in contact with several of the team’s players and that the same attitude will be maintained until the start of the campaign.
He also thanked the general manager Luis Rojas, who participated in the press conference held in the seventh heaven of the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium for the trust placed in him for such an important role.
For Estevez, the team’s main weapon is pitching and especially after the moves made in free agency.
Estévez also explained that from day one he will work on the culture of the players and on identification with the Chosen One badge.
“For me it is important that we are all aware of the culture of our team, the Chosen One has always been a winning team and that has been lacking in recent seasons, I will let everyone know that we have to show the passion we have for the uniform and that if we can compete for the championship”.

Despite being 34 years old, he understands that it will not be an impediment to be respected in the clubhouse and throughout the organization.
“I am a faithful believer that leadership does not come with age, you simply have to maintain sufficient harmony and promote a line of respect.”
He currently works as the manager of the Carolina Mudcats, Class A branch of the Milwaukee Brewers, an organization with which he has 10 years of experience.
In Lidom, he was previously with the Leones del Escogido, as first-class and infielders coach for the Lions in 2020-21 and with the Águilas Cibaeñas as quality control coach in the 2022-23 season.
He also led the Vaqueros de Montería of the Colombian Professional Baseball League in the 2021-22 tournament, reaching the final series.

Despite his young age (relatively for being a manager of a baseball team), his father maintains that Víctor Jr. has a lot of character and a strong temper, which will be his letter of introduction to the team.

Marcia Rodríguez, Víctor’s wife, with whom he has a daughter and another in his womb, said that it is a blessing for his family that Víctor can take on this challenge.
