Four Indian films dominated Netflix’s charts this week. Vikram Vedha topped the list in India and ranked among the top 10 in several other countries including Mauritius, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, and the UAE.
Netflix released its weekly viewing numbers for April 7-13. During this period, Vicky Kaushal’s period drama “Chhaava” managed 2.2 million viewers. It ranked fourth on Netflix’s global list of top 10 non-English trending films.
“Chhaava” was released on Netflix on April 11. Despite performing well at the box office, it didn’t do as well on the streaming platform. In fact, it was the third-lowest debut for a Hindi film on Netflix this year. The film garnered 5.9 million viewing hours.
Not a Blockbuster Debut
The numbers for “Chhaava” were underwhelming, especially considering its successful box office run. Other Hindi films released on Netflix this year have fared better in their debut week.
- “Dhoom Dham” had 4.1 million viewers
- “Nadaaniyan” had 3.9 million viewers
- “Deva” had 2.8 million viewers
- “Chhaava” had 2.2 million viewers
- “Emergency” had 1.4 million viewers
- “Azaad” had 1.1 million viewers
It’s worth noting that Netflix’s viewing numbers are calculated weekly, not based on the day of release. So, a film released on the fourth or fifth day of the week is still counted in the same weekly numbers.
