Vicky Kaushal’s film ‘Chhawa’ has been making waves in theaters since its release last Friday. The movie has had the biggest opening collection and first weekend collection of Vicky’s career, and it’s constantly drawing in crowds. On Wednesday, the film benefited from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, and its story, which is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, seems to be resonating with audiences.
The film has already crossed a new landmark, and Vicky Kaushal has made a record with ‘Chhawa’ that solidifies his position as a big Bollywood star. ‘Chhawa’ surprised everyone by collecting more on Tuesday than Monday, which is a rare occurrence. On Tuesday, the film grossed 25.75 crores, bringing its total net collection in 5 days to over Rs 171 crore.
According to trade reports, Vicky’s film saw a growth of about 25% at the box office on the sixth day, with an estimated collection of about 32 crores on Wednesday. This brings the film’s total gross in 6 days to over 203 crores. Interestingly, the Hindi film ‘Bahubali 2’ (2017), which was the first to collect over 500 crores, also crossed the 200 crore mark in 6 days. The fact that ‘Chhawa’ has achieved this feat in the same amount of time speaks to the film’s rapid earnings.
A Star at the Box Office
Vicky Kaushal has proven himself to be a powerful force at the box office. With ‘Chhawa’, he has achieved something unique – he’s the only actor to make his Bollywood debut after 2015 and have solo lead films cross the 200 crore mark twice at the box office. Prior to ‘Chhawa’, his 2019 film ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ collected over 200 crores at the box office.
Other Bollywood stars who have made their debut in the last decade and a half have also had success at the box office. Ranveer Singh’s first 200 crore film was ‘Padmavat’ in 2018, while Rajkummar Rao’s first 200 crore film was ‘Stree 2’ last year. Karthik Aryan, who made his debut in 2011, took 13 years to enter the 200 crore club with ‘Bhool Bhulaiya 3’ last year. Varun Dhawan and Ayushmann Khurrana, who entered the industry before 2015, do not have a single 200 crore film to their names.
Vicky’s Rise to Stardom
Vicky Kaushal made his debut in the lead role with ‘Masaan’ in 2015. Within four years, he entered the 200 crore club with ‘Uri’ in 2019. Now, in his first decade in Bollywood, he has reached this club for the second time with ‘Chhawa’. The way the film is performing, it’s likely to reach the 300 crore club soon. Vicky was already considered a strong actor, and with the tremendous success of ‘Chhawa’, he’s proving his star power as well.
