Valencia Basket Legend Víctor Claver Announces Retirement

Víctor Claver, a legendary basketball player from Valencia Basket, has announced his retirement from professional basketball. The news has been met with tributes and congratulations from his teammates, coaches, and fellow players.

Pau Gasol, a former teammate of Claver’s, wrote on social media, “It has been a privilege to enjoy your career during all these years and share great moments with you. Congratulations on your indelible legacy and enjoy this new stage of life.”

Sergio Llull, another former teammate, also congratulated Claver, saying, “There are good people and at the top of the good people is you Víctor Claver. It has been an honor to have shared so much with you. Congratulations on that incredible career and good luck for whatever comes next.”

The Real Madrid coach, Chus Mateo, also expressed his admiration for Claver’s career, saying, “Your career has been extraordinary Víctor, your human quality still surpasses it. I wish you the best of luck in the future.”

Valencia Basket will pay a small tribute to Claver this Thursday, highlighting the “legendary” career of a player who finished his training at the club and who has belonged to the entity in two stages. The club thanked him for his work but also his example.

Other clubs that were always rivals, such as Baskonia, also dedicated a message to Claver. The ACB League reflected on Claver’s career, saying, “400 matches, 8,158 minutes, and 2,392 points. His name is now forever part of the history of our sport and the courts will always remember him as a tireless worker. Thank you for this trip, Victor.”

The Spanish NBA profile, where Claver played 82 games with the Portland Trail Blazers, also congratulated Claver on his career and wished him luck in the future.

The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, also thanked Claver for his career, saying, “Today we say goodbye to a basketball legend, Victor Claver, the orange captain retires after a career impeccable of 18 seasons. From its beginnings in the lower categories of Valencia Basket until being the first Valencian in the NBA. Claver has been a pillar and an example for everyone.”

Likewise, the vice president and sports advisor, Vicente Barrera, thanked the “passion and dedication” of the man he said was the best Valencian player in history. “Your legacy will live on in our hearts,” he said.

Valencia CF also congratulated Claver on his career and the successes achieved, as did his former teammate and coach at Valencia Basket, Álex Mumbrú. “Congratulations on an incredible career.”
