Veteran Player’s Sudden Retirement Sparks Speculation Before Champions Trophy

Tamim Iqbal, a veteran batsman of the Bangladesh cricket team, has announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket. This news comes as a surprise, especially after rumors of his potential return to the team for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Tamim shared the news of his retirement on his Facebook page, informing his fans and the Bangladesh cricket team selectors about his decision.

A New Chapter in Tamim’s Life

In his Facebook post, Tamim expressed his thoughts on his retirement, stating that he has been away from international cricket for a while and feels that it’s time to move on. He mentioned that he didn’t want to be the center of attention, especially with the Champions Trophy approaching, and divert the team’s focus. Tamim also appreciated the efforts of Captain Nazmul Hussain Shanto, who had asked him to rejoin the team, and the selection committee for considering his inclusion.

Tamim’s Illustrious International Career

Tamim Iqbal is considered one of the most successful batsmen in Bangladesh cricket history. Throughout his career, he has played 70 Test matches, scoring 5134 runs at an average of 38.89, including 10 centuries and 31 half-centuries. In ODI cricket, Tamim has played 243 matches, scoring 8357 runs at an average of 36.65, with 14 centuries and 56 half-centuries. He has also played 78 T20 International matches, scoring 1758 runs at an average of 24.08, including one century and 7 half-centuries.
