As the cricket world awaits the announcement of the remaining teams for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Bangladesh may face a significant setback with their experienced spin all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s participation in doubt. Shakib’s bowling action has been under scrutiny since a complaint was filed during a county match last year, leading to a failed test. Recently, he underwent another test in Chennai, but the results were not as expected.
Shakib Al Hasan Fails Bowling Action Test in Chennai
On December 21, 2024, Shakib Al Hasan visited the Sri Ramachandra Center for Sports Science in Chennai for a bowling action test. According to Cricbuzz, the test results indicate that he has failed again. As a result, Shakib’s bowling action will be banned, and he will not be able to participate in international cricket as a bowler. However, he can still be part of the team as a batsman. A Bangladesh Cricket Board member stated that Shakib’s chances of playing in the Champions Trophy are slim, but if he passes a third test, he may be considered as a replacement player.
Liton Das’s Spot in the Team Under Threat
The Bangladesh team for the Champions Trophy 2025 may feature new faces, and Liton Das, who has struggled in the last five ODI matches, may be dropped. Tanjid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar, currently recovering from finger injuries, are expected to join the team and handle opening duties. Liton Das may be selected as the third opening batsman. Saif, who has performed well in the Bangladesh Premier League, scoring 221 runs, may also secure a spot in the team.
