Veteran Indian Actor Satish Shah, ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ Star, Dies at 74

Veteran Indian film and television actor Satish Shah has passed away at 74 years old. The celebrated performer, known for his versatile roles, died on Saturday afternoon due to kidney failure.

Shah was a respected figure in both Bollywood and television. He was recognized for portraying both serious and comedic characters throughout his extensive career.

He was widely acclaimed for his exceptional timing and ability to embody his characters. Shah achieved widespread fame through the popular television show ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’.

His filmography includes memorable roles in movies like ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, and ‘Fanaa’. His work spanned various genres and showcased his broad talent.

Shah began his career with the film ‘Bhagwan Parshuram’. His first significant role was as Dilawar in the 1981 film ‘Umrao Jaan’.

He gained household recognition with his portrayal of Commissioner D’Mello in the 1983 classic ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’. Shah primarily appeared in character roles across many films.

The 1990s saw him frequently cast in comedic parts. These included the doctor in ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ and Gulbadan Kumar in ‘Akele Hum Akele Tum’. He also appeared in ‘Judwaa’, ‘Saajan Chale Sasural’, ‘Gharwali-Baharwali’, and ‘Anari No. 1’.

Shah notably worked with all “three Khans” of Bollywood. He collaborated with Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Chalte Chalte’, Salman Khan in ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’, and Aamir Khan in ‘Akele Hum Akele Tum’. His last film appearance was in ‘Humshakals’, released in 2014.

His true breakthrough and enduring legacy were cemented through his work in television. Besides ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’, he starred in shows like ‘Ghar Jamai’.

Shah also served as a judge on ‘Comedy Circus’ alongside Archana Puran Singh. He had been away from the entertainment industry for approximately 11 years.

Throughout his impactful career, Shah received several accolades. He was honored with the Indian Tele Academy Award for Best Comic Actor for ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’. He also received an Indian Telly Award.
