Venom: Let There Be Carnage Screenwriters Explain Why Venom Was Transported Into The MCU

The screenwriters of Spider-Man: No Way Home confirmed that the film’s director also directed the post-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. In this scene, Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) enters the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As we saw in the post-credits scene of Venom 2, Eddie and Venom are in a hotel room when they are suddenly transported into the MCU. Besides the new environment in the room, Venom notice the TV screen where J. Jonah Jameson (JK Simmons) reveals that Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is Spiderman. Venom takes an interest in Peter, going so far as to lick the screen.

This scene was actually filmed on the set of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The screenwriters of the film, Chris Mckenna and Eric Summers, confirmed via Variety that Jon Watts also directed the post-credit scene. It is logical, this scene announced an apparent meeting between the Venom of Tom Hardy and the Spidey of Tom Holland, leading fans to wonder if a confrontation would take place in No Way Home. Although there has been talk of including Venom in the final battle, the choice fell on another storyline in future films.

The writers also explain a possible “plot hole” with the introduction of Venom through the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. As the fate of Doctor Strange only applied to people who knew Peter Parker was Spider-Man in other universes, one wonders how Eddie Brock, Tom Hardy’s character, might be involved, never having met Peter in Sony’s Marvel Universe. They have an explanation for this, noting that the connection is from Venom, who knows the MCU, not Eddie.
