Meetings and Diplomatic Relations

Venezuelan opposition figure Edmundo González Urrutia is set to embark on a diplomatic tour of Latin America, with scheduled meetings in Argentina and Uruguay. González will meet with Argentine President Javier Milei in Buenos Aires before traveling to Montevideo, where he will be received by Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou and Foreign Affairs Minister Omar Paganini.

Strained Relations Between Argentina and Venezuela

The meetings come at a time of heightened tensions between Argentina and Venezuela. Recent verbal clashes between Presidents Milei and Nicolás Maduro have been exacerbated by the arrest of Argentine gendarme Nahuel Gallo, who is accused of terrorism-related crimes by Venezuelan authorities. Argentina has filed a complaint with the International Criminal Court (ICC) over Gallo’s “arbitrary detention.”
