Venezuela plans to vaccinate against covid in pharmacies and shopping centers

The Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, proposed this Sunday to increase the vaccination centers against covid-19 in the country by including points in pharmacies, shopping centers, high schools and homes.

During a program broadcast by the state channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), Maduro spoke with the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, a member of the government commission against covid-19, whom he asked to make a proposal to install vaccination centers in those points.

"We are going to grow and I agree with your proposal to include house by house, vaccination in high schools, in pharmacies and shopping centers, good idea, we are going to combine all that. Make me a proposal to expand the vaccination centers"said the president to Rodríguez through a WhatsApp voice message that he recorded live.

Shortly before, the vice president had explained that the high schools, to which the students will return tomorrow after 19 months without face-to-face classes, "become itinerant (vaccination) centers where representatives" of minors can receive drugs against covid-19.

Tomorrow, coinciding with the return to classes, the vaccination will also begin for those over 12 years of age, although the authorities have not yet detailed which drug they will inoculate.

The head of state explained that they are "in studies" for "start the reinforcement campaign in January" with a third dose of the vaccines applied.

On the other hand, Maduro said that, during the week that ends, the authorities detected 8,439 new cases of covid-19 throughout the country, which is 708 less than the previous week.

On average, 1,206 new cases were registered per day and 1,317 recovered. Thus, the weekly incidence rate was 26 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, "two points lower than the previous week", according to the data it released.
