Venice is breathing down the neck of relegation, but they just pulled off a crucial 2-1 win over Fiorentina. The victory pushes them out of the relegation zone, at least for now. Eusebio Di Francesco’s side is still fighting to stay in Serie A.
Fali Candé scored the opener in the 60th minute. Kike Pérez set him up with a nice pass, and Candé took advantage of some confusion in the box to blast the ball past De Gea. Eight minutes later, Venice doubled their lead. They caught Fiorentina on the counter, with Zerbin delivering a great cross from the right for Oristanio to tap home.
Fiorentina finally got on the board in the 77th minute. Mandragora received the ball and, in one smooth motion, fired a half-volley that cut the deficit in half. Despite the late scare, Venice held on for the win.
With this victory, Venice now has 29 points, putting them just ahead of Empoli and Lecce, who both have 28 points. Monza, on the other hand, is already relegated with just 18 points. Fiorentina, meanwhile, remains stuck on 59 points, still out of reach of a European spot.
