VeChain and Samsung work together for secure data flow applications

Samsung Heavy Industries (or SHI for short) has started a partnership with the VeChainThor blockchain. SHI is one of the largest shipbuilders worldwide.

Shipping is digitized

Through the new partnership, SHI applies blockchain technology to its own Samsung Autonomous Ship (SAS) project. It also applied the technology to its SVESSEL eLogbook data streams on an operational vessel.

This news was also shared by the largest classification society for the shipping industry: DNV. According to DNV, the achievement demonstrates the potential of blockchain technology to be used for secure data flow applications on ships. According to DNV, strengthening cybersecurity in the shipping sector is an ever-increasing need. This is because more and more is being digitized within the industry.

With more digitization, shipyards, shipping companies, manufacturers and class organizations are actively developing and verifying smart and autonomous ships. This also increases the need for secure data flow applications. The collaboration between VeChain and Samsung is also over Twitter confirms.

Use case in ship cybersecurity

Through VeChainThor’s collaboration with SHI, the blockchain is the first to find a use case in ship cybersecurity. However, it is not the first time that the lightweight and durable blockchain has made an impact in mainstream industries.

Previously, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China highlighted VeChain’s role in revolutionizing the beer brewing industry. The report noted that VeChain’s sustainable carbon management solution can quantify the environmental protection behavior of each stage of the beer production chain.

The news doesn’t seem to have an effect on VET’s trading price yet, as the ecosystem’s native token is currently trading at $0.018 each, down approximately 2.5% in the past 24 hours.
