Pope Francis’ body was placed in a coffin at Domus Sanctae Marthae on Monday at 8 p.m. local time. The Pope’s family and senior Vatican officials attended the ceremony.

Public Viewing

The Vatican will display Pope Francis’ body at St. Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday morning. It is expected to be placed directly in the coffin rather than on a raised platform, reflecting the Pope’s preference for simplicity.

Traditionally, a Papal funeral takes place 4 to 6 days after death, followed by 9 days of additional ceremonies in various churches across Rome.
