Van der Poel’s Injury Woes Continue, What’s Next for the Cyclist

Mathieu Van der Poel’s Injury Woes Continue

Mathieu Van der Poel, the current world champion, is still struggling with physical issues and will be unable to participate in the upcoming X2O Badkamers Trofee in Koksijde. This event was part of his planned cyclocross program for the season. Unfortunately, the lingering injury to his ribs, which caused him to miss the GP Nys, has not yet fully healed.

According to his team, Alpecin, Van der Poel’s rib problems persist, causing significant discomfort, especially in more challenging terrain. As a result, he will not be competing in the X2O Badkamers Trofee tomorrow in Koksijde. A decision regarding his participation in the World Cup in Dendermonde next Sunday will be made on Saturday.

A Frustrating Setback for Van der Poel

Van der Poel expressed his frustration with the situation, but remains hopeful about competing in Dendermonde next Saturday. “It’s a real disappointment because Koksijde is one of my favorite races. I won my first world title there, but it’s too soon. I hope to be ready for Dendermonde, although I fear that I may not be able to compete. It will be a difficult decision,” he said.
