VALORANT World Champion s0m Takes Competitive Break, Remains NRG Content Creator

World champion VALORANT player Sam “s0m” Oh is stepping away from competitive play after securing the 2025 VALORANT Champions title, pivoting to a content creation role with his team, NRG.

Oh, who has been competing professionally for a decade, announced his temporary break on Wednesday. He stated his victory at the Champions event presented the ideal timing for a pause.

“I am announcing that I will be taking some time off, definitely not forever, just some time from competing, I’ve been doing this for 10 years,” Oh said. “I think with the Champions victory there’s no better time to take some time off.”

He will remain with the NRG organization, transitioning to a role as a streamer and content creator. This marks his second such break, having previously stepped back from competitive play to focus on content from September 2023 to May 2024.

Oh expressed gratitude for his journey with NRG, a team he joined in October 2020. He reflected on the “ups and downs” and the experiences that led him to the peak of his career.

“Looking back a bit, I want to thank you and everything happens for a reason. I had ups and downs with several rosters,” Oh added. “I really don’t think that, with all the experiences I’ve lived — not just this year, but in all the previous ones — I would be where I am today. Shout out to all NRG fans and to myself.”

Oh made his announcement via a social media post, which included a video looking back at his time with NRG.

During his competitive career, Oh accumulated approximately $284,775 in prize winnings, according to esports database Liquipedia.
