USA announced salary parity for its male and female soccer teams

Players from the US men’s and women’s soccer teams will be paid the same salary. This was announced on Wednesday by US Soccer in a official statementso the US became the first country affiliated with FIFA to establish salary parity.

“This is a truly historic moment. These deals have forever changed the game here in the United States and have the potential to change the game around the world,” Federation President Cindy Parlow Cone said.

The agreement had been closed in February of this year, but was ratified this Wednesday. The new agreement, which will run until 2028, establishes that the players of the major soccer teams will receive the same salary in friendly matches and World Cups.

It also “introduces the same commercial revenue sharing mechanism for both teams“.

Same retirement and same benefits in care tasks

Likewise, the agreement establishes that the members of the male and female teams will have equal benefits such as childcare and retirement. In the same way, improvements in medical insurance and financial support in case of serious injuries were agreed.

This agreement is the result of the work of the women’s team that later won the title in the 2019 World Cup had filed a class action lawsuit against the discriminatory policy of the US soccer federation.

“I am grateful for the commitment and collaboration of both the Men’s and Women’s National Teams and I am incredibly proud of the hard work that has led to this moment. And he remarked that “the achievements in this collective agreement are a testament to the incredible efforts of the players of the WNT (the women’s team) on and off the field,” said the player of the US national team, Becky Sauerbrunn.
