US Wildfires Spread Rapidly, 5,000 Forced to Evacuate in New Jersey Pine Barrens

A massive wildfire is sweeping through the Pine Barrens in New Jersey, forcing the evacuation of around 5,000 people.

Fire Spreads Rapidly

The fire has already burned through approximately 30,700 rai, with officials managing to contain about 40% of it.
One commercial building and several vehicles have been damaged, while 12 other structures remain at risk.
The blaze is expected to continue spreading until rain arrives later this week.

The Pine Barrens, a protected area spanning around 1.1 million acres, is prone to wildfires due to its sandy soil and dry conditions.
This is considered the worst wildfire season in the region in years, with the current fire being the second-largest in two decades,
after a 2007 blaze that burned over 42,000 rai.

Firefighting Efforts

Videos released by state agencies show thick smoke, intense flames engulfing pine trees, and firefighters battling to save damaged structures.
The fire is now burning in uninhabited areas, but concerns remain about its spread.
The region’s dry soil, strong winds, and low humidity have created ideal conditions for the wildfire to thrive.
The area is still in the midst of its most severe wildfire season.

The Associated Press reported on the wildfire, providing updates on the ongoing situation.
