WASHINGTON: An American fighter jet crashed during a military exercise in the South China Sea, injuring seven soldiers.
The U.S. Navy says at least seven U.S. officials have been injured in a “landing crash” involving a nuclear-powered fighter jet in the South China Sea.
In a statement issued Monday, the US Pacific Fleet Command said the F-35C Lightning II jet was on normal flight operations when it crashed on the deck of USS Carl Vinson.
The U.S. military says a Navy plane crashed while landing on the deck, but the pilot was rescued by a military helicopter.

A spokesman for the US Seventh Fleet, Lieutenant Mark Langford, said four of the wounded had been treated on board the ship and three had been taken to a military hospital in the Philippine capital, Manila, where they were being treated.
Mark Langford said the details of the crash, in which a multimillion-dollar warship crashed, were being confirmed.
“The rescue squad wasn’t called for him,” she told the Associated Press.
