“If they operate so closely,” he continued, “it’s not going to take long for there to be an error in judgment or just a mistake, and someone is going to get hurt. And that has become unacceptable, it should be unacceptable for them too.”
US open to dialogue with China
Kirby considered that there is a growing increase in aggressiveness on the part of Chinese forces, especially in the Taiwan Strait and in the South Sea of the Asian giant.
“We are prepared to address it,” Kirby said, adding that the US will continue to keep lines of communication open with China “to make clear how unacceptable these interceptions are.”
In this sense, he pointed out that the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, discussed this matter over the weekend at the Shangri-La Dialogue, the most important annual security forum in Asia, which ended on Sunday without the US official and his Chinese counterpart, Li Shangfu, will sit down to talk.
