A recent development has seen the confiscation of a second aircraft owned by the Nicolás Maduro regime, which was listed on the United States’ foreign asset control office (OFAC) list. This news has been reported in various international media outlets. The aircraft in question had been in the Dominican Republic since last year and was used by high-ranking officials, including the vice president and other ministers.
Sources close to the matter have confirmed that this is the second plane to be confiscated from the regime in the past six months. The United States authorities took possession of the plane due to alleged violations of US export and sanctions control laws. In a similar incident, an airplane used by President Nicolás Maduro was seized in the Dominican Republic and transferred to southern Florida.
The confiscation of the aircraft has prompted a response from the Venezuelan government. Chancellor Yvan Gil issued a statement accusing the United States of engaging in “a repeated criminal practice” that amounts to “piracy.” The Venezuelan government has stated that it reserves the right to take any necessary legal action to address the damage caused by this measure and seek reparations.
