A manhunt is underway in Minnesota after a shooting left a state senator and her husband dead. The suspect, identified as 57-year-old Vance Luther Bolter, allegedly attacked the home of Senator Melissa Hortman and her husband in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Suspect’s Background
Bolter works for a security company called Praetorian Guard Security, where he is listed as the director of patrol operations. His employer’s website says he received training from US military personnel.
According to police, Bolter dressed up as a police officer and opened fire on responding officers when they arrived at the scene. He escaped through the back door of the senator’s home, but his car was found and is being held as evidence.
Investigation and Warnings
The police chief, Mark Bruley, warned residents in the area to be cautious and not to open their doors to single officers. A list of over 70 public officials was found in Bolter’s car, prompting authorities to issue warnings and increase security measures for those individuals.
A flyer for a “No Kings” protest, reportedly against former President Trump, was also discovered in the suspect’s vehicle. Governor Tim Walz has urged people not to attend the protest until the suspect is caught.
The motive behind the attack is believed to be politically motivated, according to Governor Walz. The FBI is assisting in the investigation.
