US Open 2021: Britain’s Emma Raducanu took the crown

British tennis player Emma Raducanu, 18 and coming from the classification, made history this Saturday by winning the US Open 2021, last Grand Slam of the season, by beating Canadian Leylah Fernández 6-4, 6-3 in the final.

Raducanu thus became the first United States Open tennis champion to arrive from qualifying., as reported by the ANSA agency, and also did so without giving up a single set in their ten games played.

Raducanu, that from his current position 150 will jump to the top 25, is the first british to win of a Grand Slam in women’s singles since Virginia Wade won Wimbledon in 1977.

At just 18 years old, the British won in this way in a duel of promises, since Fernández, her opponent, has only one more (19).

The brand new monarch of the 2021 US Open debuted on the WTA circuit just three months ago in Nottingham and he had only played one Grand Slam tournament, at this year’s Wimbledon.
