US military plane crashes, killing 4

California: A US military plane has crashed, killing four soldiers.

A military plane allegedly crashed Wednesday in Imperial County, California, according to details circulating on social media that the plane was loaded with nuclear material, but US officials have denied this.

A U.S. Marine Corps spokesman said a military plane carrying five U.S. Marines crashed in southern California on Wednesday.

According to US media, at least 5 soldiers were aboard the MV22B Aspray, the fifth soldier is missing, the plane crashed near the highway in Imperial County, where only four bodies were found from the wreckage, the search for the fifth is underway. Imperial County officials fear a fifth soldier may have been killed in the crash.

U.S. officials have denied that the plane was carrying any nuclear material.

The plane, belonging to the Third Marine Aircraft Wing, crashed at about 1 p.m., officials said, adding that the plane crashed in a suburb near Highway 78 and Kochila Canal Road, about 100 miles from San Diego. To the east is El Navigator, near the Naval Air Headquarters in California.

The cause of the crash is being investigated, the Navy Air Force in El Centro said, adding that contrary to initial reports, there was no nuclear material on board.
