US manufacturing activity slowed in January

The growth of US manufacturing sector slowed in January for the third consecutive month, limited by supply difficulties and labor shortages, despite signs of improvement.

The index measured by the ISM professional federation stood at 57.6% in January, as expected by analysts, compared to 58.8% in December, according to a statement released on Tuesday.

The activity is increasing when the index is above 50% and contracting when it is below that level.

"The US manufacturing sector remains in a strong demand environment and remains constrained by the supply chain.or"ISM polling manager Timothy Fiore said in the statement.

But the good news is that "January was the third month that showed signs of better labor resources and performance supplier delivery".

The highly contagious variant of the coronavirus ├│micron, which triggered the number of covid-19 cases and therefore the quarantines since the end of December, also weighed on activity.

In fact, this has caused a "shortage of critical materials, difficulties in transporting products and lack of labor in factories"Fiore detailed.

Despite this, the companies surveyed remain optimistic, he said.
