US Halts Covid-19 Vaccine Recommendations for Healthy Children and Pregnant Women

The US has dropped Covid-19 vaccines from its recommended list for healthy kids and pregnant women. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the US Health Minister, announced this in a social media video. He claims there’s no need for these groups to get vaccinated, citing unclear scientific data.

On May 27, 2025, Kennedy said the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) would no longer include Covid-19 vaccines in their recommended vaccine schedule for healthy kids and pregnant women. He believes there’s not enough scientific evidence to support vaccinating these groups, especially with booster shots. Kennedy thinks it’s unnecessary for healthy people.

However, this decision may limit access to vaccines for high-risk groups. The CDC’s website hasn’t updated its information yet, but Kennedy’s statement has shocked the healthcare community. It bypassed the usual expert review process, which could affect health insurance coverage for Covid-19 vaccines.

Many vaccine and health experts have criticized Kennedy’s announcement, saying it lacks new research to back it up and bypassed the usual expert review process. Dr. Steven Flicshman, President of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, says the science hasn’t changed. Covid-19 can be severe for pregnant women and their babies, but vaccines have been shown to be safe and effective in reducing the risk of death and hospitalization.

According to Dr. Flicshman, babies born to vaccinated mothers have higher immunity against Covid-19 in the first six months. Global research confirms the safety of vaccines for pregnant women and children.
