An undeclared war is currently going on between China and America. Now that the world is rapidly moving towards digital, the attacks are also happening in a digital way. America is also making similar attacks on China. At present, a particular university in China is troubled by the attacks of American hackers. In fact, China’s North-Western Polytechnic University has been troubled by foreign cyber attacks recently.
The Chinese National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center and Chihu 360 Technology Company released investigation reports into the matter on September 5, respectively. The investigation revealed that the Tailored Access Operations Office (TAO), a subordinate of the US National Security Agency (NSA), over the years conducted thousands of malicious cyber attacks against China’s domestic network targets and took control of related network equipment. This led to suspected theft of valuable data.
University pays great attention to network security
Song Chiang, deputy head of North-Western Polytechnic University’s Office of Information Creation and Management, said a Trojan program was recently detected in the university’s network system. This caused significant risks to the normal working and order of the University. The university pays great attention to network security and apprised the police of the relevant situation.
TAO stole over 140 GB of data
The Public Security Department of Xi’an City quickly registered a case for investigation. A joint technical team from the Chinese National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center and Chihu 360 Technology Company participated in the technical analysis of the case. Preliminary search revealed that the associated attacks came from the NSA’s TAO. The investigation also revealed that in recent years TAO conducted thousands of malicious cyber attacks against domestic network targets in China and took control of tens of thousands of network devices. TAO stole more than 140 GB of valuable data.
