Jairo Sebastián Crosa Olmedo, a 26-year-old individual, has been extradited from Argentina to Uruguay, where he will face preventive detention for 180 days. This move comes after he was charged as a co-author of a particularly aggravated homicide crime. Olmedo’s extradition occurred on November 20, 2024, and he recently testified about his involvement in the attack on a police officer that took place in early July outside a supermarket in the Conciliation neighborhood.
The young man had a red alert issued by Interpol, requested by Uruguay, for his alleged role in a very especially aggravated homicide in an attempted degree. His arrest was made possible by the Argentine Federal Police in Morón, following an exchange of information with the Uruguayan police that helped identify the area where Olmedo was moving.
The investigation into Olmedo’s activities led to his identification after a shoe was lost at the scene of the crime. Through scientific police analysis, a genetic profile was obtained, which ultimately identified one of the criminals involved.
## Police Attack
On July 6, at approximately 19:00, two criminals arrived at a supermarket in the Conciliation neighborhood. One of them surprised a police officer at the door and attempted to steal the officer’s regulation weapon. The entire incident was captured by the supermarket’s security cameras.
During the struggle between the officer and the offender, the other individual fired several shots at the supermarket facade. An exchange of gunfire ensued between the criminals and the police, resulting in the officer being shot three times: once in the leg, once in the abdomen, and once in the thorax. A total of 19 pods were found at the scene, and the criminals fled without achieving their objective.
The police officer was transferred to the Police Hospital, where he spent several days in the CTI recovering from his injuries. Olmedo’s testimony regarding the attack marks a significant development in the investigation, which will continue over the next 180 days while he remains in preventive detention.
