Uruguayan Soldiers Injured in Congo Confrontation Undergo Medical Treatment

The National Army has provided an update on the condition of Sergeant Adrián Fernández, who was injured during a confrontation with M23 rebels in the Congo. Fernández was transferred to a level IV hospital in Uganda for further treatment.

Current Status of Injured Troops

The other three injured troops, including Soldier Franco Olivera, Cape Roque France, and Soldier Elder Píriz, are being closely monitored. Soldier Franco Olivera is receiving treatment for a knee injury at the Indian Rubber Hospital, while Cape Roque France is being treated for thigh burns at the same hospital. Soldier Elder Píriz has been discharged and is currently at the battalion.

Previous Incident

Earlier, the Army confirmed the death of the 1st Rodolfo Álvarez soldier of the mechanized cavalry squadrons No. 1. The incident occurred during a confrontation with M23 rebels in the Congo.

Medical Treatment

Sergeant Adrián Fernández was airlifted to Kampala, Uganda, where he underwent surgical intervention to improve his clinical situation. He is currently in serious condition at the CTI.
