Uruguayan Soldiers Diego Ferreira and Jhon Patron Injured in Congo Conflict

Sergeant Diego Ferreira and Cabo Jhon Patron, who were injured during clashes between Uruguayan peacekeepers and rebel forces in the Congo, will be returning to their home country. The reason for their return is that their recovery time exceeds the period allowed by the United Nations for them to stay in the area where the peace mission is taking place, as reported by the National Army on Thursday.

The process of bringing the military personnel back home will happen in the coming days, according to a statement from the force. Regarding the health of the other Uruguayan troops, there have been no changes in the last 24 hours.

The situation in the city of Goma and its surroundings, including the area of Russayo, remains stable. Additionally, 229 former members of the Congolese Armed Forces who had demobilized have left the “Always Present” base, following procedures authorized by the United Nations, as stated by the Uruguayan army.
