Uruguay Navy Ends Search for Missing Cruise Crewman in Brazilian Waters

The National Navy has suspended its search for the crewman of the MSC Poetry cruise who fell into the water in the early hours of Saturday. The incident occurred after the cruise departed from Montevideo, Uruguay, en route to Camboriú.

The crewman, a Filipino national who worked as a waiter, fell into the water once the cruise had already entered Brazil’s territorial sea. As a result, the search efforts are now being continued by the Brazilian authorities.

Following an emergency call to the National Navy on Saturday, a search operation was initiated in the waters between Uruguay and Brazil. However, the focus has since shifted to the Brazilian side, according to Navy spokesman Alejandro Pérez, who provided an update on Monday.

Footage from the cruise’s surveillance cameras indicates that the 32-year-old man fell into the water from the boats used for disembarking passengers. The Brazilian authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine whether the man fell accidentally or intentionally threw himself into the sea.
