A wave of bomb threats hit two major shopping centers in Montevideo. The Ministry of Interior stepped in, evacuating both areas. No explosives were found, but the threats are being taken seriously.
Investigation underway
Fiscal Raúl Iglesias is leading the probe into these threats. The Ministry made it clear that such actions are against the law.
The first threat targeted Montevideo Shopping on Saturday night. Two calls were made, prompting a swift evacuation. The 911 emergency services sprang into action, getting everyone to safety.
Less than 24 hours later, another threat was made against the same shopping center. The public was evacuated once more, but no explosive device was found.
A third threat
Later that day, around 5 pm, Punta Carretas shopping center received a similar threat. The result was the same: evacuation and no explosives found.
The Ministry of Interior outlined its response to these threats. “Upon receiving calls about potential explosives in shopping centers, we immediately activated our protocol,” they said. “This involves several departments, including the National Fire Department, Montevideo Police, and National Police Investigations.” Inspections were carried out, and with no explosives found, normal activity resumed.
