Uruguay Interior Ministry Probes Discovery of Gun Parts in Villa Española Container Yard

Police union members stumbled upon several crates near two shipping containers in Montevideo’s Villa Española neighborhood.
The containers, situated on José Pedro Varela and Serrato streets, held parts of firearms, sparking concern that officers may have discarded the items.

Arms Parts Found

One crate contained 17 pieces of gun parts, including grip components for revolvers and a submachine gun, known as “cachas.”
The union, representing the Republican Guard, reported the discovery to the Ministry of Interior, citing suspicions that the parts were abandoned by law enforcement.

The union’s vice president, Martín Racende, took the case further by filing a detailed complaint at the Ministry’s Internal Affairs office.
He provided all available information and had previously kept one of the crates under custody at his home.
The incident raises questions about the handling and disposal of firearms within law enforcement agencies.
