United States: two teenagers arrested for wanting to plan a mass killing

Authorities in Lee County, Florida, United States, foiled an elaborate plot by two teenage boys who were planning a shootout at their school. They have been arrested and will be taken into custody.

This mass killing was aborted thanks to reports from several students at Lehigh Acres school to one of their teacher, indicating that they had seen a weapon in the bag of one of their classmate. “As soon as the students reported the potential threat, the teacher notified the administrators, who immediately contacted the School Resources Officer. Together, they emptied the classroom and investigated, ”one of the Lee County School District representatives told CNN. The student in question was searched, but he did not have a weapon with him.

On the other hand, Sheriff Carmine Marceno told a press conference that a map of the school where “all the internal cameras of the school” were represented was found in the backpack of the young suspect.

The police subsequently carried out searches of the student’s home, which revealed “a firearm and several knives”. According to investigators, he and another student were “involved in a conspiracy to commit a school shooting.” The two comrades had learned a lot about the Columbine massacre in 1999, in which two students killed thirteen of their comrades and a teacher, and injured dozens of others.

The two teenagers are accused of conspiring to commit a mass shooting, according to the sheriff. They had to undergo a psychiatric assessment before being taken into custody, and will then be brought before a judge in the coming weeks.
