Unicaja will officially hang the Cabezas shirt against Barcelona

Unicaja announced weeks ago that it will forever retire the jersey with the number 10 in tribute to Carlos Cabezas, who announced his retirement from the basketball courts this summer and to whom the Los Guindos entity offered the opportunity to say goodbye with the Malaga club’s shirt at the last Costa del Sol Trophy, in a duel against Real Madrid.

From next October 24, the date on which Jasikevicius and Mirotic’s Barcelona visit Malaga, the green shirt with the 10 of the Marbella base will be displayed on the roof of the Martín Carpena pavilion next to that of Berni Rodríguez. Curiously, the only two numbers that Unicaja has withdrawn are those of the two canteranos cajistas. “An honor reserved for players who are the history of Unicaja and who have been protagonists of the most successful era of our club”Read the green statement.

Carlos Cabezas arrived at Los Guindos when he was 12 years old, as a child, and grew up in the quarry until debuting with the first team on February 13, 2000 on the Barça court. With the green jersey he has played 505 games, being the second player who has played the most games for Unicaja, with a total of 10,462 minutes. He tops the historical classification of starting times, with 297 occasions, and is second in points (3,935) and free throws made (836) and third in assists (927), recoveries (384) and valuation (3,853).

The club cuts Edgar Vicedo

Unicaja has also announced in the last hours that it ends its relationship with Edgar Vicedo, the Madrid forward who came to test in preseason and who was awarded a one-month contract that has allowed him to play three Endesa League games with the shirt green. “From Unicaja Baloncesto we want to thank Edgar Vicedo for his professionalism, dedication and affection and we wish him the best of luck in his personal and professional future,” said the Malaga club.
