Malaga, Spain – In a highly anticipated move, Yankuba Sima has officially signed a contract extension with Unicaja, committing to the Spanish club through June 2026. The deal brings an end to a weeks-long tug-of-war between the player and the club, with Sima’s demand for more playing time finally met.
Key Terms of the Agreement
According to sources close to the negotiations, Sima will see his salary increase as part of the new deal. More significantly, he has been “promised” a more prominent role in coach Ibon Navarro’s rotations for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Club Statement
“Since his arrival at Unicaja in January 2023, Sima has grown as a player, establishing himself among the best pivots in both the Endesa League and the BCL. This news confirms the continuity of 11 players from the team last season, a group that has delighted fans and achieved great successes in the last two seasons under the orders of Ibon Navarro.”
Sima’s Time at Unicaja
Sima joined Unicaja in January 2023, stepping in for Augusto Lima who was out with a serious injury. Over the past 1.5 seasons, he has become a crucial part of the team’s success, playing 54 games across Liga Endesa, Copa del Rey, and BCL competitions. His stats averaged 5.5 points, 2.9 rebounds, and a PIR of 5.6 in 15:05 minutes per game.
