Unapec awards Doctor Honoris Causa title to Héctor Valdez Albizu

APEC University awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to the Dominican economist Héctor Valdez AlbizuGovernor of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, who has accumulated personal, moral and citizen merits, sufficient to deserve this high distinction.

This was ratified by Dr. Franklyn Holguín Haché, rector of Unapec, in his order speech, expressing that “the university, by awarding this Honoris Causa Doctorate, does justice, and above all feels that it has given a chair of civics, of patriotism, of morality, solidarity, friendship, loyalty, and decency. We are witnessing the apotheosis of an idea and the exaltation of a singular man who has become worthy, by his actions, of the eternal gaze of God, therefore, I consider that what this act should teach present and future generations: It is not the conquest of fortune, nor of glory, it is something even more beautiful: the conquest of God, the only stone on which the honor of man can rest and the only one at whose feet human pride will always be turned into ashes. ”.

   “Valdez Albizu is one of the most outstanding figures in the economy of the Dominican Republic.” Allow me to briefly highlight the main achievements of his 24-year management at the head of the Central Bank: control of inflation; the stability of the foreign exchange market; the fulfillment of economic growth goals, and finally, the increase in international reserves”, he said.

An auditorium full of the main actors of national life witnessed heartfelt applause at such a significant moment, which gave way to words of thanks from the governor, who stated that “I can modestly say that I am convinced that stability of prices achieved during my years as governor, has contributed to creating the conditions for the takeoff of the Dominican economy towards the long-awaited development”.

remembered that in 1994 the country had some 7.6 million inhabitants who produced some US$14 billion, for a per capita income of US$1,880 per year. Today, we have a population of 10.6 million people who are estimated to generate in 2022 a product of US$112 billion and a per capita income of more than US$10,000.


Valdez Albizu stressed that the academic preparation and years of experience, both his and the team of professionals that accompany you, They have been decisive for conducting monetary policy along a path of stability.

Hector Valdez Albizu

He was born on November 10, 1947, in the city of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, National District. He is married to Mrs. Fior D’Aliza Martínez de Valdez with whom he fathered a son, Héctor Manuel.

Graduated with a degree in economics in 1971 from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo. He carried out specialized studies in different institutions such as: Universidad Católica de Chile; the Institute of Specialized Studies of the International Monetary Fund; at the Organization of American States-Central Bank and Research Center for Advanced Studies, Dominican Republic.

He has worked at the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic for 52 years, beginning his professional work in 1970.

Dr. Valdez Albizu is the current Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic, a position he has held for 24 years, being in second place worldwide among the presidents of the central bank with the longest tenure in the position, only behind the Governor of the Central Bank of Romania.

During his outstanding career as an economist, he has received important national and international awards; He has carried out various research projects and has been a professor at the Universidad Central del Este and the Institute of Higher Studies, today APEC University.
