Russia Ukraine War: Instead of stopping, the war between Russia and Ukraine is getting worse. Vladimir Putin announced a partial deployment of troops to his country amid a nearly seven-month-long war with Ukraine and warned the West that Russia would do everything possible to defend its territory and that it was “no rhetoric”. Is. Officials said a partial deployment of 300,000 personnel has been planned. The Russian President addressed the nation via television. His address came just a day after it was announced that Moscow was planning to hold a referendum on annexing parts of eastern and southern Ukraine it occupied with Russia.

Putin accused Western countries of “nuclear blackmailing” and referred to “statements by top representatives of NATO countries about the possibility of using nuclear weapons against Russia”. Russia’s defense minister said an additional 300,000 troops would be deployed. At the same time, it has been said on behalf of Putin that if Russia’s territorial integrity is threatened, Moscow will take all possible steps in response. The time of 7 months that started this war between the two countries is about to end. Russia launched its first attack on Ukraine on 24 February. Since then the war is getting more aggressive every day.

Decision may escalate conflict in Ukraine

Russia’s defense minister said 300,000 reserve personnel would be called in to the partial mobilization and people with military experience would also join. This decision of Putin’s partial mobilization could further escalate the conflict in Ukraine. In fact, thanks to the weapons of Western countries, the Ukrainian army, which has remained in the war so far, has retaliated on Russia. Due to which the Russian army had to retreat from many occupied areas. British Foreign Office Minister Gillian Keegan told Sky News that Putin’s speech was worrying and the threats he made in it should be taken seriously.

He said, ‘Obviously this is something that we should take very seriously because you know we are not in control. I’m not sure he’s in control either. This clearly amounts to provoking a war. Russia’s ruble fell after Putin’s speech and global oil prices jumped. While the war has already driven up fuel and food prices around the world.

Referendum in four regions of Ukraine

The eastern and southern regions of Russia-controlled Ukraine on Tuesday announced a referendum on becoming an integral part of Russia. This effort by Ukraine’s separatist four regions to become part of Russia on an organized and quick basis, backed by the Kremlin (the office of the Russian president), would give Moscow the basis for intensifying the war with Ukraine. That too when the Ukrainian army is getting success in capturing its territories. Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and the partly Russian-held Zaporizhzhya region have announced a referendum will be held from Friday. This announcement has been made after his close ally Russian President Vladimir Putin told the need for it. At the same time, seven months after the start of the war, Russia seems to be losing ground.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev also said that the merger of eastern Ukraine regions with Russia and redefining their borders is “immutable” and will enable Russia to take “any step” to defend them. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba called the referendum shameful, tweeting: “Ukraine has every right to liberate its territories and will continue to liberate them no matter what Russia says.” It is almost certain that such a referendum will go in favor of Moscow, but Western governments backing Ukraine’s military will not recognize it. The referendum will give Russia a chance to intensify fighting at a time when Ukraine’s military is taking the lead.

Luhansk and Donetsk jointly form a large part of the Donbass region, which has been occupied by separatists since 2014 and which Putin had made the primary base for the Russian offensive. “The people of Donbass, who have been suffering for a long time, have gained the right to be part of the great country that they have always considered their homeland,” said Denis Pushilin, a Donetsk separatist leader. He said the referendum would give the “historic justice to the millions of Russians they were waiting for”. “The sooner we become part of Russia, the sooner peace will come,” said Vladimir Rogov, a pro-Russian activist from the partly Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhya.
