The minister for digital transformation, Bornyakov, has said that Ukraine still receives a lot of crypto donations. He calls cryptocurrencies essential in the war against Russia.
Crypto Donation Trend in Ukraine
The Crypto world has proven its worth by sending donations to Ukraine to support its efforts during the war with Russia. There have been many contributions, most of which have been facilitated with crypto coins. However, donating to the government would not be accessible without the decentralized system.
To reiterate the importance of digital currencies, a senior minister in Ukraine revealed how crypto donations are helping them in the ongoing war. Alex Bornyakov revealed his support for digital currencies in his July 26 tweets.
Donations are reported to have started in early 2022. The request was to help support the country’s military and humanitarian movements.
The response to that was not surprising, as Ukraine was one of the countries that supported digital assets even before the war started.
Donated over $60 million
Since then, data showed that the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation had raised more than $60 million through donations. Data also showed that many worldwide sent donations to the “Aid for Ukraine” website. This was done in ETH, USDC, BTC, USDT, SOL and DOT.
In addition to the website that collects these donations, the government has also raised money through NFTs. This was made possible by a virtual museum for artists depicting the events of the war. In the “Meta History Museum of War” the possibilities are immortalized in NFTs and mined by the user who bids the highest amount.
Where crypto helped Ukraine, Russia on the other hand banned it for cash transactions or payments.
Regarding the ongoing crypto winter, Bornyakov maintains a positive stance. He believes there will be a spring after the winter when investors will recoup their losses. The minister also stated that despite the declining market, donations still help soldiers in these difficult times.
