UK under threat of Coca-Cola shortage

The UK is currently facing a series of logistical challenges affecting supermarket shelves. So much so that the products of the Coca-Cola company are starting to become scarce.

It is first of all a lack of raw material which is at the origin of this shortage of Coca-Cola drinks. According to the American giant, the aluminum needed to make the cans is currently struggling to be supplied in the United Kingdom. “The shortage of aluminum cans is a key problem for us now but we are working with customers to manage this successfully”, however assured Nik Jhangiani, director of Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, interviewed by the Guardian.

This hurdle comes on top of a significant labor shortage in the UK road transport sector. According to figures from the RHA, the British association of transport companies, more than 100,000 employees are missing.

a consequence of brexit

This staff shortage which has been going on for several months now is a direct consequence of Brexit, to which has been added the health crisis: European drivers have returned to their countries of origin and have not been able to return to their posts for lack of visa now required to practice in the United Kingdom. As for the British candidates, they are few to apply for this reputedly difficult profession.

Coca-Cola products are not the first to run out in the UK. A few weeks ago, the fast-food giant McDonald’s announced a shortage of milkshakes in its British restaurants. Another direct consequence of the supply chain problems in the country.
