UK records its warmest New Year’s Eve

The United Kingdom registered its hottest December 31 on Friday, with more than 15 degrees Celsius in the northeast of the country, indicated the British meteorological service (Met Office).

"Coningsby, Lincolnshire, recorded a temperature of 15.3 degrees (Celsius), which means that today is the hottest New Years Eve ever recorded in the UK"noted the Met Office on Twitter.

The previous record dates back to 2011 when the thermometer read 14.8 degrees in Colwyn Bay, a seaside resort in Wales.

Temperatures, which could continue to rise during the day before dropping slightly at night, would have to be warmer in parts of the east and south of England, including the capital London.

This year the UK "As a whole, it has been slightly warmer and drier than the average, although with variations throughout the country, especially with regard to rainfall."Mike Kendon of the Office’s National Climate Information Center said in a statement Thursday.

Despite the mild weather, the United Kingdom is celebrating the New Year wisely, due to the explosion of coronavirus infections.
