Udaipur Files: SC clarifies no release order, only denied urgent hearing on film.

The buzz around the film ‘Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder’ is hard to ignore. But this movie faces some real drama before it even hits screens. A court case is playing out, adding twists to its path. The Supreme Court recently cleared things up about its involvement. It stated no written order was given about the film. The court simply turned down a request for an immediate hearing.

The Supreme Court spoke on Thursday. Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Joymalya Bagchi made this clear. They explained their earlier comment, “Let the film be released,” had caused some confusion. This comment had nothing to do with a written order. It was just a refusal to hear the petition against the movie’s release right away. Kapil Sibal, a lawyer for one of the accused, Mohammed Javed, had pointed out the confusion.

The lawyer for the accused said the court’s words created misunderstandings. Mr. Sibal explained that the film is set to release on July 11. He argued that its release would unfairly influence the ongoing trial of the accused. He also mentioned that the petition against the film had not even been heard properly. He has since told the Supreme Court that he will take the matter to the Delhi High Court.

The judges had different thoughts on the matter. Justice Bagchi felt the film should not be released. However, Justice Dhulia repeated that the court only refused an urgent hearing. He stressed there should be no confusion about this point.

Mohammed Javed, who is the eighth person accused in the Kanhaiya Lal case, filed the petition. He wants the film stopped until his trial finishes. He claims the movie’s trailers and promotions are designed to cause communal friction. Releasing it now, he fears, would hurt his case. He argues the film shows the accused as guilty. It presents the story as completely true, which could sway public opinion.

This whole situation goes back to June 2022. Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Udaipur, Rajasthan, was allegedly murdered. Mohammed Riyaz and Mohammed Gaus were the accused. This case got a lot of public attention at the time.
