A Film Stirring Controversy
‘Udaipur Files’ is making waves, and not just for its story. The movie is based on the real murder of Kanhaiya Lal in 2022. It faced many legal problems before its release. Some critics argued the film contained parts that could cause major disputes. Despite these worries, the Delhi High Court decided not to stop its release. So, the film finally arrived in cinemas across the country on Friday.
Producer Under Threat
Amit Jani shared his terrifying experience on X, formerly known as Twitter, this Saturday. He revealed he’s been getting endless calls from an unknown number. The caller threatened to bomb him or shoot him. Jani stated that the person on the phone identified himself as Tabrez from Bihar. Jani’s post called on authorities to quickly register a case and arrest the caller. He tagged the Home Minister, Prime Minister, and Uttar Pradesh Police in his message.

Security Measures Taken
This isn’t the first time Jani has felt his life was at risk. Just last month, the central government provided him with Y-category security. This special protection covers him in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, given his previous claims of facing danger.
Delayed Release and Legal Hurdles
The film, starring Vijay Raaz as Kanhaiya Lal, was supposed to open on July 11. However, it faced delays due to censorship issues and legal challenges. The Supreme Court even had to step in, telling the Delhi High Court to quickly resolve all arguments against the government’s approval for the film’s release. It was a rocky road to the big screen.
The Tragic True Story Behind The Film
‘Udaipur Files’ tells the story of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor who was brutally murdered in 2022. He was killed in broad daylight at his shop in Udaipur, Rajasthan, by two attackers. This happened after he reportedly made a social media post supporting Nupur Sharma. Nupur Sharma was a former member of a political party who made controversial remarks about Prophet Muhammad during a TV news debate. Bharat S. Shrinet and Jayant Sinha directed ‘Udaipur Files’, with Amit Jani serving as its producer.
