Ubisoft Producer Reveals The Division 2 Revival With Just 5 People

The Division 2 was once in a tough spot. For a long time, the game received no new content. Many players thought it was a goner. Yet, it managed a big comeback. What’s even wilder is that just five people were behind this huge effort.

Palle Hoffstein, a producer at Ubisoft, shared this story on X (formerly Twitter). He posted about it on August 23rd. This came after The Division 2 announced a massive roadmap. The plans will celebrate the series’ 10th anniversary. A new game, The Division: Survivors, is also on the way. Hoffstein revealed that The Division 2 was almost dead. Only a small team of five developers brought it back to life.

“I’ve been part of teams that brought big changes to both Rainbow Six Siege and The Division 2,” Hoffstein tweeted. “It’s amazing to have been on both teams. But we only had five people to fix The Division 2. Five people! What were we thinking? It was fun, though.” He explained their mission further. “When we formed a small team for The Division 2’s revival, my goal wasn’t just to add a year or two,” he wrote. “I didn’t want the game to just fade away again. We aimed to build something bigger and lasting. It’s great to see it happen, but we still have much more to do.”

The task was not easy for the tiny crew. “Finding people was the biggest challenge,” Hoffstein added. He noted that studios usually have plans for everyone for years. “We were the team nobody wanted. We shouldn’t have even existed.”

Despite these hurdles and the small team, The Division 2 truly made its comeback. It now has a detailed plan for new content, stretching into next year. The game will also feature many collaborations with other titles. This story shows what a small, dedicated group can achieve.
