Uber’s EV Push: $4,000 Incentives for Drivers, up to $15,000 in Savings

Uber is rolling out a new program offering thousands of dollars in incentives to U.S. drivers who switch to electric vehicles, significantly advancing its goal to decarbonize its ride-hailing fleet.

Under its newly branded “Go Electric” initiative, the company is providing a $4,000 subsidy to eligible drivers adding new or used electric vehicles to their accounts. This follows Uber’s rebranding of its “Green” designation to “Electric.”

The $4,000 incentive is available to qualified drivers in key U.S. markets including New York, California, Colorado, and Massachusetts.

Drivers across other parts of the United States can access a $1,000 discount on used electric vehicle purchases through Uber’s partnership with TrueCar.

These incentives can be combined, allowing drivers to potentially reduce their costs further. For example, a driver in New York could see total savings of $5,000 by leveraging both Uber’s direct subsidy and the TrueCar discount.

The most substantial savings are possible in states with complementary programs. Colorado drivers could save up to $15,000 by combining Uber’s incentives with the state’s Clean Fleet and Vehicle Exchange programs.

In California, drivers could see up to $12,000 in combined savings, while Massachusetts drivers might save up to $6,000.

Eligibility for the Uber subsidies is currently restricted to Diamond Uber Pro drivers who have not previously registered an electric vehicle on their Uber account.

While these specific incentives target the U.S. market, Uber has a broader ambition to transition its global fleet to electric vehicles. The company indicated that similar initiatives could be extended to other regions, including Europe, in the future.
